Hampstead, NH
Hampstead is located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. It is situated 30 miles from Concord, 30 miles from Portsmouth and 20 miles from Hampton Beach. It includes the town of East Hampstead. Island Pond is on the east, Angle Pond and Wash Ponds are on the west of Hampstead. Sunset Lake is also found in Hampstead, making it an attractive summer destination and summer camp location.
Hampstead’s historic main street is lined with antique Colonial homes. The town is known as a picture-postcard town. It was first known as Timberlane Parish, due to its growth of native trees. The town was renamed Hampstead in 1749, by Governor Benning Wentworth.
According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Hampstead's population at the time was 8,952 people. This included 3,681 households and the median household income was $68,533. . Hampstead is comprised of 13.3 square miles of land and 0.7 square miles of water.
Hampstead Real Estate and Homes: In 2000, there were 3,276 homes in Hampstead and an average of 246 homes (houses / condos) per square mile. In 2007, it was estimated that real estate in Hampstead was comprised of a total of 3,661 homes. This included 2,557 single-family homes and 795 multi-unit homes. In 2010 single-family property sales were; 66 homes sold, $279,460 average sold price and 141 average days on market. In 2011; 69 homes sold, $231,785 average sold price and 105 average days on market.
Favorite spots within town include; Beantowne Coffee House & The Prime Butcher at the intersections of Rt 111/121 and The English Muffin (great breakfast stop) & and The Flying Cow (ice cream) on Main Street across from Town Hall.
